“We have been hearing for years how the appraisal industry has been experiencing a continual decline in the number of active licensed and certified appraisers. At Valuation Expo 2013 we were reminded of the 5% annual decline with only 1% entering the profession. That 4% net loss equates to thousands of appraisers no longer available to provide valuation services for the nation’s lenders and investors.”
We would add that another real concern is the knowledge that goes with them, particularly those seasoned veteran appraisers who contributed a lot to their profession. We hope our efforts with Real Estate Appraisal Practice: A Collection of Examples will go a long way to preserving, and making available the knowledge of how to handle unique and challenging valuation assignments, without having as many seasoned veterans around.
